After such a positive start to the season the loss to Sunshine was a big let down and in some ways wiped away the good work we had done in the preseason. Now it`s about character and how we bounce back this week against the reigning premiers and top side in the competition.
The day didn`t start well with our reserves side putting up a fight right through to the last quarter but just ran out of fitness to loose by 10 goals. Drew Mitchell and Barry Langley were good again.
The seniors disappointment started in the first quarter giving away 16 freekicks , three 50 metre penalties and a double goal !!!! Even though half the free kicks were not there it dosen`t excuse the abuse of the umpire which 100% turned him against us, costing us minimum 4 goals. We were only down by 2 at quarter time. The second quarter is where we squandered chances kicking 3.7 with 4 of the 7 easy goals ! Even with the umpiring decisions still frustrating us we were under 5 goals behind and a real chance of coming out after half time and challenging.
This was not to happen as we had a player Red Carded not to return for the game leaving us to play out the second half with 17 players. Heads dropped and we started playing for ourselves, coaching decisions were not made and can take some blame for the score being blown out the door, being outscored 18 goals to 4 in the second half.
This aberration is now in the past and a commitment has been made not to go down that path again, in the end the score was not a true reflection on the difference between the 2 teams and we look forward to the return game on our home turf !

Reserves 12pm vs Yarraville Seddon @ Home
Glen Orden 17.17 119 def Yarraville 6.6 42
It has been a long preseason with great numbers attending even back before Christmas when we began in November. New players have continually been added to our already proven team list, 26 new players to be exact. Life has been hard at the selection table as with a possible 28 players (who played in the senior practice matches) to pick from for the first game all put their hand up, it was a great position to be in , not only for the Seniors but the Reserves also.
The Reserves got the day off to a great start winning in fine fashion by 10 goals. They were never in danger always in control of th

e winning margin out further. The better players were : Barry Langley . a new comer to the club only 19 years old , played onball and got a case of leather poisoning . Drew Mitchell , showed his class through the midfield. Jayden Wood another new comer was good all over the ground. Lennon Doherty took control up forward in the second half kicking 4 goals. Eddie Bryson the new Reserves Captain worked hard all day and never shut up. Well done boys.
Very happy with the outcome but our test comes over the next 3 weeks as we take on 3 teams who played finals last year and believe they will be the top 3 sides this year. It will be tough but if we stay strong to our game plan, listen to our coach and believe, we can achieve the impossible.
