After a very good win the previous week against Yarraville Seddon we needed to be competitive against Sunshine who are only 2 spots above us on the Ladder . We came out and played good footy in the first quarter with the assistance of the breeze we kicked 5 goals and lead at the break by 14 points . But that was where the good footy stopped as Sunshine kicked 12 goals , 8 goals and 9 goals in the next three quarters to our 1 goal a quarter to end up loosing by 23 goals !
It was very embarrassing to say the least and even though we have many injuries after the start we got it should never have got out to where it did and the playing group know this and with another couple senior players out next week when we take on the top of the Ladder Spotswood we will need to did deep and stick together for the rest of the season.
Hard to really give out any good players but Matt Laskowski & Josh Russo were the more consistent over the 4 quarters, Teizte also tried hard all day.

This weeks game against Yarraville Seddon was to be a test to see if they had improved and for us with 10 players injured in the Senior Team including our Captain could we still win convincingly ?? We come away from this game happy that we could win by 15 goals with a number of young players & new players to the club stepping up to seniors and doing well . BUT they are the bottom side and it means nothing if we can`t be competitive with the middle range sides. Our aim in the second half of the season is to make improvements on the results of the first half and make sure we don`t incur any Big loses !!!
We played good Footy on Saturday and it was a good feeling which should make the players hungry for more of it . Better players on the day , which there was many but the ones that stand out are the Goal kickers Nathan Lovell with 8 straight goals and he spent alot of the day in the ruck , Travis Johns kicked 7 goals 2 behinds & Johnno Hevern kicked 2 goals 3 behinds. Standout players on the day were the Russo brothers Josh & Justin , they won alot of contested ball. Also Dean Chandler against his old side was fired up from the start , he also kicked 3 goals. Kurt Teizte & Matt Laskowski ran all day.
Lets continue on and strive to improve not just ourselves but the Team and the Club !

After such a positive start to the season the loss to Sunshine was a big let down and in some ways wiped away the good work we had done in the preseason. Now it`s about character and how we bounce back this week against the reigning premiers and top side in the competition.
The day didn`t start well with our reserves side putting up a fight right through to the last quarter but just ran out of fitness to loose by 10 goals. Drew Mitchell and Barry Langley were good again.
The seniors disappointment started in the first quarter giving away 16 freekicks , three 50 metre penalties and a double goal !!!! Even though half the free kicks were not there it dosen`t excuse the abuse of the umpire which 100% turned him against us, costing us minimum 4 goals. We were only down by 2 at quarter time. The second quarter is where we squandered chances kicking 3.7 with 4 of the 7 easy goals ! Even with the umpiring decisions still frustrating us we were under 5 goals behind and a real chance of coming out after half time and challenging.
This was not to happen as we had a player Red Carded not to return for the game leaving us to play out the second half with 17 players. Heads dropped and we started playing for ourselves, coaching decisions were not made and can take some blame for the score being blown out the door, being outscored 18 goals to 4 in the second half.
This aberration is now in the past and a commitment has been made not to go down that path again, in the end the score was not a true reflection on the difference between the 2 teams and we look forward to the return game on our home turf !

It has been a long preseason with great numbers attending even back before Christmas when we began in November. New players have continually been added to our already proven team list, 26 new players to be exact. Life has been hard at the selection table as with a possible 28 players (who played in the senior practice matches) to pick from for the first game all put their hand up, it was a great position to be in , not only for the Seniors but the Reserves also.
The Senior team got off to a scratchy start in the first 10 minutes but never looked back from there finishing the day 20 goal winners and on top of the 1st Division WRFL Ladder ! 9 ne

recruited quality players. The team has gelled well and will only improve once we all get to know eachothers game styles better. An encouraging sign was that we had 12 different goal kickers, the standout being Boofa with 6 goals, Johns, Zangari & Bunworth all got 3. Our backline has stood strong throughout the practice matches and were great again on Saturday keeping Yarraville to only 6 goals, the run created by Innella, Russo, Hevern & McDonald has been good.
The whole team played well on Saturday , better performances come from Johnno Hevern a new comer from Werribee Amateurs with many runs and marks controlling the Half Back line and launching us into attack continually. Travis Johns on ball just kept getting the ball and Boofa moving like a young Wayne Carey at CHF was leading and marking everything !!
Very happy with the outcome but our test comes over the next 3 weeks as we take on 3 teams who played finals last year and believe they will be the top 3 sides this year. It will be tough but if we stay strong to our game plan, listen to our coach and believe, we can achieve the impossible.
